Our Partners
Our Marsh Counts is incredibly grateful for the support of dedicated partners. Their collaboration and commitment to protect and preserve coastal ecosystems will make a lasting impact on our community and the environment. Together, we are making a difference!

South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium , a state agency tasked with administering the Sea Grant program for SC, is a member of a nationwide network of 34 Sea Grant College Programs within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The Consortium provides science-based information on issues and opportunities to improve the social and economic well-being of coastal citizens while ensuring the optimal use and conservation of our marine and coastal natural resources.

The South Carolina Aquarium has served the community for 25 years as a world of natural wonder, a hub of STEM education, a driver of conservation action and a sanctuary of fun. The Aquarium connects visitors with more than 5,000 animals representing the rich biodiversity of our state and through Michael and Pam Wilson Plastic-Free Waters, works across South Carolina to mitigate plastic pollution with community outreach and citizen science.

The TD Campus and Community Sustainability Initiative, also known as Sustain Coastal, is committed to transforming Coastal Carolina University into an environmentally sustainable university through campus operations, student curriculum, engaging students through learning and outreach, and collaboration in the community through sustainable stewardship of resources.

Chirping Birds Society advocates for eliminating unnecessary plastic pollution that is detrimental to human health and our planet. Since 2009, CBS has hosted campaigns to raise awareness on the need to reduce single-use plastics on the coast. In 2022, CBS along with local partners launched “Our Marsh Counts” as a citizen science project to improve stewardship and identify the issues of litter in the waters of Murrells Inlet.

Murrells Inlet 2020 strives to make Murrells Inlet a great place to live, work and visit. Its mission is to promote the conservation of our natural environment while fostering local community and commerce. Their vision is to make Murrells Inlet a great place to live, work, and visit through a combination of environmental awareness, infrastructure improvements, economic development, and community involvement.

Georgetown County Parks & Recreation preserves and conserves the county’s natural resources to ensure future generations may continue to enjoy outdoor recreation and programs. Recognizing the significance of public education and outreach, the Department seeks opportunities to address environmental challenges, particularly the impact of litter and plastic pollution on the health and safety of local waterways and wildlife.

The Gullah Geechee community has deep cultural ties to the land and water in coastal communities with long traditions of sustainable practices. However, they have been historically denied meaningful engagement in citizen-science and access to profitable resources. The Gullah Geechee Chamber Foundation raises awareness of Gullah Geechee businesses, museums, events, guided tours and restaurants on the coast of Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina.
